5. Jacob J. (JJ)3 Bruner (Jacob2, Jacob1) was born in Sandusky Co., Fairfield December 2, 1818. Jacob died May 11, 1899 in Noble County, IN, at 80 years of age.

He married twice. He married Catherine Luce in Sandusky Co., Fairfield, August 18, 1844. Catherine was born in Sandusky Co., Fairfield December 5, 1826. Catherine died April 19, 1870 in Noble County, IN, at 43 years of age. Her body was interred April 25, 1870 in Ligonier, Perry Township, Noble County, IN, Oak Park Cemetary. He married Sarah Gerber Morrel in Noble County, IN, July 26, 1874. Sarah was born in Ohio 1836. Sarah died 1918 in Noble County, IN, at 82 years of age. JJ Bruner was a cabinet maker and carpenter. JJ and Catherine moved north to Sandusky County, OH about 1823 and eventually settled in Noble County, IN in 1848. He married Sarah Gerber Morrel (widow of Samuel Morrel) July 26, 1874 in Noble County, IN after the death of his first wife, Catherine Luce.

Below is his obituary from the Albion Democrat, May 25, 1899:

Jacob J. Bruner was born in Fairfield Co., OH, on Dec. 2, 1818; died in Ligonier, IN, May 11, 1899, aged 80 years, 5 months, 9 days. He married Catherine Lance (sic) in 1845. They had 5 children, 3 of whom are living. He came to Albion in 1848 & was engaged in the furniture trade. He resided there until 1870 when he moved to Ligonier. His wife died about this time. In 1874, he married Mrs. Sarah Morrell. He worked in the carpenter trade in Ligonier until the past few years. He was a member of the Adventist Church. The funeral was held at his late residence Saturday, burial Ligonier Cemetery.

Jacob J. (JJ) Bruner and Catherine Luce had the following children:

child 6 i. Emma Ann (Amy)4 Bruner was born in Ohio August 1845. Emma died August 15, 1925 in San Gabriel, California, at 80 years of age. She married John Francis Overmire in Indiana, July 4, 1877. John was born in Sandusky County, Ohio November 25, 1840. John was the son of Peter Overmire and Elizabeth Hill. John died March 19, 1892 in Tama County, Iowa, at 51 years of age. (See John Francis Overmire for the continuation of this line.) Emma Ann (Amy) and John moved to Tama County, IA after their marriage.

Amy's obituary from the Pasadena, CA, Star-News, 18 Aug 1925:

AMY OVERMIRE - Funeral services for Mr. Amy Overmire, who passed away last Saturday at her home in San Gabriel, were held at 10:30 this morning from the Chapel of Ives & Warren Co. Rev. J. Gustav White of Los Angeles officiated. Interment was in Mountain View.

child 7 ii. Hester Minerva Bruner was born in Ohio December 10, 1848. Hester died July 19, 1871 in Albion, Noble, IN, at 22 years of age. Her body was interred July 19, 1871 in Albion, Noble, IN, Rose Hill Cemetery. She married Cornelius Weeks in Indiana, 1868.

child 8 iii. Henry Franklin Bruner was born in Ohio 1849. He married Nancy Minerva Parker in Indiana, 1868. Nancy was divorced from Henry Franklin Bruner in Indiana, November 17, 1868.

child 9 iv. Samantha Wilmina (Mattie) Bruner was born in Albion, Noble, IN October 30, 1852. Samantha died July 28, 1905 in Conrad, Grundy County, IA, at 52 years of age. Her body was interred July 30, 1905 in Conrad, Grundy County, IA, Conrad Cemetery. She married John Austin Vanderford in Noble County, Indiana, June 28, 1874. John was born in Indiana September 28, 1853. John was the son of Austin Comer Vanderford and Dorothy Heltzell. John died October 8, 1928 in Elgin, IL, at 75 years of age. His body was interred October 10, 1928 in Conrad, Grundy County, IA, Conrad Cemetery. (See John Austin Vanderford for the continuation of this line.) Mattie and John's marriage certificate is dated June 28, 1874, in Noble County, IN.

Mattie Bruner died two weeks before her husband's mother in Conrad, IA. From the Conrad, IA newspaper on July 21, 1905, "Mrs. John Vanderford has been failing of late...her extreme weakness is augmented by a severe cough". She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Eugene Schryver.

child 10 v. Harry Bruner was born in Ligoneer, Indiana 1871. Harry died October 9, 1926 in Tama Co., IA, at 55 years of age. According to the Toledo Chronical obituary:

"When a small child his mother died and he was brought to this county by his sister, Amy, with whom he lived. He had a severe and long illness when a child, from which he never fully recovered."
